Rabbi Mark Newton
Rabbi Newton has served several Temples in the Boston area as a rabbi, teacher, lecturer and cantor. He has a wide variety of talents which include selection and presentation of weekly sermon topics, conducting services, and leading congregations in the Conservative tradition.
He was ordained at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, and completed his college education at the Georgetown Univerity School of Languages and Linguistics in Washington, D.C.. Linguistics is a particular interest of Rabbi Newton, which he pursues as his mainstay professional career and which is evidenced in the engaging sermons he provides during the Shabbat and special occasion services.
In his rabbinical services, he has been actively involved in many different areas. He has created and promoted cultural, social and educational programs. He has supported community mediation, student outreach and counseling, as well as staff supervision. Duties have included budget coordination, fund raising and faculty/alumni relations. Rabbi Newton has been actively involved in synagogue affairs which extend to media relations, speaking engagements and working with local government representatives and clergy regarding community issues.
